01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
On the third floor of a building within easy walking distance of Yushima Station and the Okachimachi area, Sedaiya is an izakaya where you can settle in over charcoal-grilled skewers and jidori chicken. Open every day from 5 p.m. until 3:30 a.m., it suits everything from a drink after work to a gathering that starts late or carries on after another stop.
Jidori chicken and a variety of charcoal-grilled skewers
Chicken dishes, their aromas lifted by the grill, take centre stage. The charcoal-grilled jidori skewers range from familiar choices such as chicken and leek, chicken skin, gizzard and chicken tail to pork cheek and pork tongue. If choosing is difficult, an assortment of skewers is a handy option. There are more substantial dishes too, including jidori thigh grilled until fragrant on the outside, chewy jidori meatball skewers and jidori chicken nanban.
Beyond the meat, the menu also includes horse sashimi sent directly from Kumamoto, an assortment of fresh-fish sashimi and grilled hokke. The small plates make it easy to order a few dishes and share. Drinks range from draft beer in a medium mug, Kirin Lager in a medium bottle and refreshing Riku highballs to sake such as Dassai and Hakkaisan, shochu such as Tomino Hozan, and cassis and lychee cocktails.
Private rooms for gatherings, or a late-night finish
There are courses with all-you-can-drink options for parties, as well as simpler plans for a second stop. Private rooms and spacious seating offer a relaxed setting for sharing drinks with a group. After a satisfying finish of Japanese-style stir-fried udon or ochazuke, seasonal ice cream offers a cool, refreshing last bite.
